Automated PCA Insertion

Situation

A very large manufacturer of telecommunications equipment needed to automate the loading of PCAs into a chassis to improve efficiency.

Problem

Automated insertion required the PCAs be aligned to the chassis, however to reduce capital costs the customer wished to reuse existing material carts.

ODI Role

An innovative and low cost registration system was developed that allowed the existing carts to meet the alignment tolerances. The automation was achieved without machine vision, further lowering the cost.
