The Situation
The world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer was faced with ramping demand for their fiber optic transponder modules. Their current R&D process was much too labor intensive to meet the ramp.
The Solution
Owens Design, working in conjunction with the manufacturer’s internal process automation group, developed a production worthy fiber optic laser alignment and welding station to meet the needs. The system uses high precision stages, vision alignment, lasers, and fiber optic test equipment. The station is mounted on a vibration isolated granite table in a laser safe mini-environment.
